We spent the entire day on the train traveling to Interlaken, Switzerland from Venice. We had to take 4 different trains and we managed to make all our connections. Yay us! We are become old pros at managing our packs now.
The scenery from the train was fantastic.
We arrived in Interlaken and after a short walk we found our hostel. I'm not going to lie- this was the part of the trip I was the most nervous about. Nicole has stayed in a few different hostels but this is my first one. Was I ever pleasantly surprised!
It's a great building, so clean and has friendly staff as well. The bed is the most comfortable bed I have had this whole trip. And the room is purple and orange, my two favourite colours.
We got settled in then went out to venture around and find some dinner. People had warned us that Switzerland would be expensive but holy cow I wasn't expecting it to cost this much for food. The restaurants are full of people so everybody is paying it but the meals are almost double what we were paying for food in Florence.
I was very brave and tried a local dish that had been recommended to me by a friend. Lisa you were right on the money, this Raclette was so yummy. It is melted cheese with little potatoes and pickled onions and I tried all of it. This is a big deal because I am not usually the adventurous one when it comes to food.
It is so beautiful here, it reminds me of Northern Ontario with the lakes but here they have the cutest little chalet houses.
Well I believe I am climbing up a mountain tomorrow so I better hit the sack now.

So now I have completely run out of adjectives. And you get to hike in the mountains of Switzerland tomorrow --- it would be my dream come true. Really miss the hiking that Bob and I did. I think I would have expected the food in Paris to be the most expensive, but you managed to find somewhere more. Looks loke the trains are pretty comfy. I would have been concerned about the " hostel life" too but sounds like you lucked out.
ReplyDeleteI checked the official language of the Swiss and I get to sign off in English today.
By the way ---- was your meal made with "Swiss Cheese". LOL !!!!!!
