We checked the weather so we knew today was going to be a cooler day with rain this afternoon. We wanted to get up the mountain before the rain started so we were off early this morning. Being Good Friday not all the stores were open today but we did find a little place to buy some pain au chocolat for breakfast- I am addicted! We found a fountain for some refreshing water to wash it down. The fountains are all around here and have the most crisp cool water in them- we filled our water bottles and off we went.
Today was the first day the local Interlaken mountain - Harder Kulm- opened for the season. They were offering half price rides today and we also had visitor to the city passes so we got a great deal. The view from the top was amazing.
You can see mountains and valleys for miles and miles. The water here is such an interesting colour, kind of a turquoise blue, like nothing I've seen before. They had a lookout platform with a glass floor you could walk out on. Now Nicole is terrified of inclines, and any really big hill. She is not at all afraid of heights and would have parasailed off of the mountain if she had the money, but she has a problem walking down hills. She had a little bit of a meltdown when we first started walking around but then overcame her fear and started to enjoy herself.
We took a ton of pictures. Here we are falling off the cliff.
When we were hiking around it was easy to pretend we were just walking around in the woods at home, until you looked over the edge.
We decided to have our big meal at lunch today and ate at the top of the mountain.
The food was fantastic. Nicole got a cheesy dish with ham and eggs and home fries. It sounds way cooler in German lol.
I had a chicken breast with herb butter and a salad. The salad had Harvard beets with it which was something my parents eat but I had never tried before, they were very good!
Nicole got the beer special, it came in a cool glass. She asked the manager if she could buy the glass as a souvenir and he said she could have it as a present!
I of course had my regular coca- cola light
Our view during lunch was awesome.
We headed back down the incline and toured around the village a bit more.
Nicole found a cute car she could plug in and probably carry around in her backpack.
When I was a little girl my dad bought me a jewelry box, which I still have, that looks like a little Swiss chalet. Today we saw many in real life. I love them!

What a terrific account of your day. The closest I have done to that would be Banff, Alberta, but that wouldn't have the European aura. The shots are great. What an amazing thing to share with mother and daughter.
ReplyDeleteGuess I will have to learn some German before tomorrow night.
