We took the Euostar from London to Paris. Having to go through a boarder crossing, metal detectors, luggage scans, please remove your coat, in the middle of a train station was a new experience. The train is very fast but we had to sit backwards the whole way- something I would try to avoid next time.
Once we made it to Paris we quickly realized that English speaking clerks were our new best friends, they were all extremely helpful. We got our Eurail passes validated and set up our first trip- Pisa to Florence next week. We sorted out they best deal for us getting around Paris for the next four days and then we were off!
We found our hotel with not too much difficulty. It's pretty cute. We are on the third floor. The elevator is only big enough to take one person at a time and walking is faster then it goes lol.
It's so pretty here- this is our view from our room. All the buildings are ornate and have these nice little balconies. We found our local bakery just 4 doors down from our hotel. The smell is delicious and there is so much to choose from. We of course had a baguette and then today we decided to try a strawberry macaroon - Nicole and I have wanted to try one ever since Blair had them on Gossip Girl! OMG- so yummy and not at all what I expected.
After our snack we were off to explore the city. We started at the Arc de Triomphe. What a marvel of engineering. It's hard to get across just how huge and magnificent it is. Nicole is pinching the roof :)
We walked along some streets and down by the river to the Eiffle tower. That's when it really became real- we are in Paris! So much fun!
We had a picnic at the base, took tons and tons of photos and when it was dark and the lights on the tower came on we went up. Ryan and I faced our fears and we took the elevator to the top. The view was amazing! You can see lights for miles and miles and miles. We made Nicole face HER fear of inclines and we all walked down from the second deck, all 704 steps!
We got a bit lost trying to get back to our hotel but a really cute French couple took us under their wing and helped us find our way. We had a fantastic day and can't wait to get out there and do it all again tomorrow!

This trip is going to be terrific. And I don"t have to haul those backpacks around with me. Great photos. Looks like you guys had the "tired giggles" in the tower one. Looking forward to seeing it every day. Enjoy,
ReplyDeleteWe're following the blog every day in room 17. The kids loved the Eiffel Tower shots. Glad to see you went up at night. Something I'll never forget. Amazing eh?
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun seeing Paris with you this way. Some day I hope to see it for myself.
