We made it to our campground late last night. The trip from France went really smooth. The campground sent a driver to pick us up at the airport so there were absolutely no hassles at all. It's the first time I have had someone meet me at the airport with a sign
Our cabin is perfect- we have bunkbed and a single, a bathroom and not much else. It's clean and in a green space which is something I crave after being in the big busy cities all day.
We headed into the city centre, it was a bit confusing with all the signs and instructions being in Italian. I don't find the people here to be as friendly or as helpful as the people in France. Some are extremely nice and funny don't get me wrong but on the whole they are a less friendly group. Our waiters at the cafe where we ate lunch were very sweet and so excited that we were from Canada!
We went to Vatian city first. We did fall for a bit of a scam with our Vatican tickets. We were lead to believe you had to have tickets to see St Peters and you absolutely do not. We did get the tickets and got into Vatican City and got to see the Sistine chapel which was very interesting.
It is very beautiful and the artwork is amazing. There were tons of people and tons of stairs to deal with.
I was not dressed mostest enough ( I had shorts on) so I had to buy a scarf to cover my legs (only €3 so not bad).
I liked St Peters a lot. Again I can't get across just how BIG these places are.
We had a map and just walked all over the city. Everywhere you turn there is something amazing to see. It could be a bridge, a fountain, an old man singing in a square.
We had to have some gelato to help us keep up our stamina- so many flavours to choose from, I had caramel and Nicole had chocolate today, tomorrow we are going to try fruit flavours.
We went to the colosseum and to trivoli fountain. We all made wishes.
We had dinner at another street cafe. We all had the 2 course special and we all ordered something different so we got try try a lot of different dishes.

Buongiorno ai miei due amici.
ReplyDeleteWow, is all I can say. Amazing shots. It sounds like you are navigating around like a local. How col is that. Love al your photos, but the one of the staircase is outstanding. Sitting outside in the streets for meals ----- fantastic. A campground that comes to airport to pick you up ----too much . 26,000 steps, you will need new shoes when you get home.
Cool staircase!! - mv
